Lake Washington Singers is dedicated to providing scholarships to high school vocal students. Each spring the group selects finalists from a pool of applicants. The winner of the competition receives a monetary award and the opportunity to perform during our spring concert.

Syd Coan, a sophomore at Inglemoor High School in kenmore, WA, is our 2011 scholarship winner. Syd is enlisted in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Progam at Inglemoor High School with her outside school activities centered on music and vocal performance.

Syd has been performing musical theatre since she was very young and has recently found a love of opera. She hopes to major in opera at a music school conservatory on the east coast after high school. Her voice teacher is Laura Shepherd of Renton, WA. Syd's most recent roles have been:

• Puck (A Midsummer Night's Dream - performed at Studio East)
• Lady McDuff (The PorterMacbeth)
• Marcy Park (25th Century Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee)
