Mary Votava

Our 1995 winner is Mary Votava. Mary began her career as a performing artist at the age of 4, reenacting The Billy Goat's Gruff in her backyard, using a felled tree as the infamous bridge. She was very convincing in the role of "The Troll" and even left bite marks in one of her friend's legs. As soon as camcorder technology became affordable, Mary was borrowing her friends' parents' cameras and making films and musicals for every possible school project where media format was unspecified.

In her teens, Mary began singing more seriously. She did some children's roles with the Seattle Opera, then went on to receive her Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory after graduating high school. Post college, she moved back to Seattle and spent a couple years performing in local musical theater and opera productions before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her original passion: acting in film and television.

While waiting for her lucky break, Mary studies math and physics, with the intention of attaining a Ph.D. in some uber-nerdy subject like Astrophysics or Aerospace Engineering. (This, pre-supposing she can make it through her lower division courses without frying her noodle). She also participates with the Southern California Australian Football League (www.scafl.com), and is always looking for men -AND WOMEN- to come play the best sport on the planet.
