Scholarship Program

Lake Washington Singers is dedicated to providing scholarships to high school vocal students. Each spring the group selects finalists from a pool of applicants. The winner of the competition receives a monetary award and the opportunity to perform during our spring concert.

Andrea Zomorodian

Our 2007 winner is Andrea Zomorodian. Andrea graduated with a magna cum laude degree in Vocal Arts from USC in Los Angeles and performed her Senior Voice Recital on May 14th, 2011 in Pasadena, CA. She has received a Fulbright award and will be moving to Vienna, Austria, in September 2011 to study music and teach English for the upcoming year.

Originally from Bellevue, Andrea enjoys performance of all kinds including opera, oratorio, musical theater and dance. While attending college she sang with USC Chamber Singers, USC Chamber Opera, the Choir of Saint James LA', and performed with the USC Opera, Trojan Consort and Horizon Music Group.

In recent summers, Andrea has interned at Seattle Opera and attended summer programs such as the Vancouver International Song Institute and Bel Canto Northwest Vocal Institute. She won her division at the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside (Bellevue) in 2010 and gave two undergraduate recitals (Los Angeles) . She performed on a tour of English Cathedrals in summer of 2010 with the Choir of Saint James' LA in their Pilgrimage to Canterbury as well as teaching theater in Seattle. She was back in the Seattle area for the 2011 summer teaching musical theater at Broadway Bound and gave her first professional recital at St Mark's Cathedral on Capitol Hill.

Her arts experience includes many years in the USA Junior Olympic Gymnastics program, musical theater, Assistant Minister at St Andrews Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Academy of Music NW conservatory, and playing flute in band and orchestra. Her local voice teachers were Karen Nestvold and Marianne Weltmann. In her spare time, Andrea loves spending time with her wonderful family, friends and her cat, as well as traveling and exploring the rich cultural life of Los Angeles.
