Abigail as "Yum-Yum" in The Mikado
Our 2002 winner is Abigail Mitchell. Soprano Abigail Mitchell, a native of Kirkland, Washington, is currently pursuing Artist Diploma at the International Opera School of the Royal College of Music in London, a two year study program supported in full by the Georgina Joshi Foundation. Opera roles include Najade (professional debut--Indianapolis Opera), Susanna, Anna Reich, and Javotte. Upcoming engagements include Fiordiligi at the Royal College of Music, and Norina with Westminster Opera in Southwest France. Her teachers include Eiddwen Harrhy, Carol Vaness, and Patricia Wise.
Abigail recently graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with degrees in both voice and performance. At Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, she studied with reknowed sopranos Carol Vaness and Patricia Wise. While at the Jacobs School, she was seen as Anna Reich in Die Lusitgen Weiber von Windsor and Javotte inManon, both with the IU Opera Theater, as well as Nuria in the collegiate premiere of Golijov's Ainadamar with the IU Chamber Orchestra.
As a member of Indianapolis Opera's Young Artist Ensemble, she also performed in extensive outreach and educational events, including Yum-Yum in the school performances of The Mikado. Additional performance credits include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, Lucy in The Threepenny Opera with Detour Theater Company, and the soprano solo in Carmina Burana in Indianapolis and as a guest artist at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
A 2002 graduate of Inglemoor High School, Abigail began her studies in London in September of 2010.
